Education and Lifelong Learning
We are at the cutting-edge of developing innovative partnerships in the education
sector. We are active in a wide range of projects, including Building Schools for
the Future, large scale grouped schools PFI projects and "state of the art" ICT
procurement for schools. We have an established client base of local authority clients
and service providers; we also regularly advise schools, governing bodies and foundation
trustees. We are actively involved in the growth and diversification of the sector,
through new initiatives such as BSF, 'extended schools' and children's services.
We assisted a primary school in Lewisham with the formation of the first 'school
company' under the Education Act 2002. Two of our solicitors play a key role as
school governors for local schools and as secretary to an educational charity.
The Education White Paper promised to revolutionise the school system and delivery
of the curriculum, with a move to greater freedom for schools to move to 'trust
school' status. We are well-placed to advise clients on the opportunities and challenges
of this agenda.
