Care Services & Accommodation across the County of Wiltshire

May 2005

We advised leading care charity The Orders of St John Care Trust on the successful completion of a 20-year £240 million strategic partnership contract to provide residential care services and accommodation across the County of Wiltshire. The contract between Wiltshire County Council and The Orders of St John Care Trust will guarantee 490 care beds for county council clients. The residential care homes cater for older people and older people with mental health problems.

Our team was led by Director, Mark Johnson, assisted by Preety Singh. The Council was advised by in-house legal team (Ian Gibbons and Chris Whittington). The Trust has built a successful relationship with the County Council over 5 years, which has led to the renewal and widening of the contract until 2025.

Mark Johnson commented: “This contract is the culmination of 18 months of planning and negotiations. Having assisted our client to win major partnership contracts in Oxfordshire and Gloucestershire, this will be a major new piece of business to consolidate the Trust’s presence in the area. This type of complex partnership contract is a particular specialism of ours and will become more common as government seeks to entrust the delivery of more public services to the voluntary sector.”

Judy Seager, Wiltshire County Council cabinet member for adult care services said: "I am delighted with the positive partnership the county council has built with The Orders of St John Care Trust. The new contract will allow us to build upon the very good services we deliver and to improve facilities at the care homes over the next 20 years."

Nigel Reed, Chief Executive of the Trust said: "Following on so soon after the opening of our new 60-bed care home at Coombe End Court, Marlborough, we are particularly pleased to be entering into this new phase of our partnership with the county council to provide and develop services for older people in Wiltshire."
