TPP Law Wins Two New Academy Projects
TPP Law are delighted to have been appointed to advise on two new Academy Projects
in Kent and Lincolnshire. The St Georges Academy in Lincolnshire is due to open
in 2009, with the Knole Academy in Kent to open in 2010. The new projects highlight
the strength of TPP Law’s involvement in the Academy sector.
For both Academies, TPP Law is providing legal advice on establishing the Academy
Trust and negotiating the different contractual documents, such as the Deed of Gift,
Funding Agreement and the Development Agreement. We are also advising on the transfer
of assets from the old schools to the Academy Trust, employment law and any property
law issues.
St George's Academy
The St George's Academy in the Sleaford area of Lincolnshire will replace three schools;
a Foundation School and two Community Schools.
The lead sponsor of the Academy is St George’s College, a high performing foundation,
non-selective secondary school. The University of Lincoln and Lincolnshire County
Council are acting as co-sponsors.
The Academy will operate across three sites, replacing St George’s College and two
Community Schools in the area – The Aveland High School and Coteland’s School.
The accelerated establishment of the Academy means that Lincolnshire’s BSF Local
Education Partnership will not be operational in time to deliver the capital investment,
and so the Council is to procure the building work for the construction of the new
Academy buildings through the National Framework.
Knole Academy
The Knole Academy in Sevenoaks, Kent is to replace two Foundation Schools and will
also be delivered through the National Framework.
The lead sponsor of the Academy is Gordon Phillips of the Glen Care Group, which
specialises in the treatment, rehabilitation and care of children and adults with
complex needs. Kent County Council and the prestigious independent school, Sevenoaks
School are acting as co-sponsors.
