Minister announces boost for social enterprise public service delivery

Cabinet Office Minister Liam Byrne today announced at Voice 09 a new push to involve more social enterprises in public service delivery.

Speaking to delegates at the leading sector conference in Birmingham, he announced:

A social enterprise summit in the coming months, chaired by Lord Mandelson, to identify aggressive growth strategies for the social enterprise sector.
A target to grow the social enterprise workforce by 25,000 over the coming months, with a focus on public services.
A review of the Government’s deal pipeline to make sure social enterprise and third sector is getting its fair share.
The launch of a new single portal in May bringing together contract opportunities, funding and advice from central and local authorities.
