Johnson Appointed to Future Builders Panel

January 2006

Mark Johnson has been appointed to the panel of approved consultants used by the Futurebuilders England Fund. He will be supporting the fund in reviewing applications for investment and advising on legal and commercial issues.

The £125 million Futurebuilders Fund was established in 2002 to boost the involvement of the voluntary and community sector (VCS) in the delivery of public services. The fund is sponsored by the Home Office and administered by a consortium comprising Charity Bank, NCVO, Northern Rock Foundation and Unity Trust Bank. The fund offers a combination of grants, loans and equity investments to boost the capacity and infrastructure of VCS organisations to enter into public service delivery. The fund focuses on five key areas:

  Community Cohesion
  Education & Learning
 Health and Social Care
Support for Children & Young People
  Crime Reduction

Says Johnson, "Futurebuilders has a key role to play in enabling VCS organisations to secure growth and stability through diversifying their business and securing new income streams. Futurebuilders supported projects will raise a wide range of legal regulatory issues, such as constitutional and governance aspects, charity law and procurement, state aid and property development issues. We are delighted to be able to offer our expertise to help create more successful partnerships between the public and voluntary sector."

Over 100 voluntary organisations across England have so far been approved for a Futurebuilders investment. Latest figures show that 102 organisations have benefited from £36 million worth of loans and grants, helping them improve public services.
